Columbia College Chicago - 2025

Flesh & Font is a three-part zine series that began as a typography project and evolved into a deeper exploration of sign painting as craft, culture and community. The series traces the tradition from its historical roots to the vibrant visual language of Mexican rotulismo, and into the present day through the hands of local artists and studios keeping the practice alive. What started as a fascination with letterforms became an appreciation for the labor, skill, and stories embedded in every painted sign—where language lives not just on walls, but in the people who make it.

You can now see the full zines on exhibition at Harold Washington College in the President’s Gallery.
